Welcome to Woodstock, New Brunswick’s First Town

A growing community, the town of Woodstock (2006 population estimate: 5100) offers the best of small town life to its residents, and serves as the urban economic and services centre for the farms and rural residents of southern Carleton county.

We value our heritage, and trace our municipal origins to the 1780s when the land around the mouth of the Meduxnekeag River was granted to Loyalist refugees fleeing the new United States following the American Revolution. The 19th Century brought other settlers, a village developed and grew, and in 1856, Woodstock became the first of New Brunswick's twenty-six Towns to become incorporated.

Like many small towns, Woodstock has been and remains a community of neighbours, of volunteers, of donors, of mutual self-help in getting things accomplished. From L.P. Fisher, the town’s first mayor who left most of his considerable fortune to be used for the betterment of the town, to today’s service clubs and fund-raisers who take on project after project, Woodstock benefits from the far-sighted generosity of its citizens.
