2014-"2000 Subway Slammers

In 2000, after consecutive provincial Junior Championships in their first two years of operation, the Woodstock Subway Slammers were selected as the first New Brunswick team to host the Atlantic Junior B Championship – the Don Johnson Cup.

The outstanding efforts of General Manager Dwight Fraser, Tournament Chairman Jim McLellan, and team officials Ralph Hawkes, Ron McLellan and Craig Calhoun made the five-day event a showcase for Junior B hockey. Over the course of the tournament, between 7,000 and 8,000 spectators jammed the Carleton Civic Centre in support of the Subway Slammers.

In one of the most exciting games ever played at the Civic Centre, and in front of 1,500 hometown fans, the Subway Slammers defeated team Nova Scotia, the Cape Breton Alpines, by a score of 4-1 to capture the Don Johnson Cup and the Atlantic Junior B Championship.

The extremely tense championship final instantly became a classic in Woodstock and Carleton County hockey history. The Subway Slammers carried an early 2-1 first period lead through the second and well into the third period before two late goals secured the win.

On their way to the final, the Slammers completed a stellar performance with 3 wins and 1 loss to finish first in round robin play.
