Doug was born and raised in Woodstock and, after graduation from Dalhousie University with a Doctorate in Dental Surgery, he returned to Woodstock to begin his practice in 1966.

Between 1960 and 1971, Doug was one of New Brunswick’s most accomplished golfers. During this period, he captured several Maritime, provincial and regional championships.

1960 N.B. / P.E.I. Junior Champion, won in Woodstock, from which he advanced on to play in the national tournament at The Thornhill Club in Toronto, Ont.

1967 N.B. Lefthanders Champion

1969 Plaster Rock Invitational Champion

1971 Oromocto Invitational Champion

1971 Grand Falls Invitational Champion

1971 Presque Isle Spudland Open – Low Amateur

Over the course of his career, Doug won 7 Woodstock Old Home Week (Lou Beatty) Invitational Championships in 1967, 1968, 1969, 1971, 1984, 1988, 1992; 6 Woodstock Golf and Curling Club Championships in 1968, 1969, 1975, 1980, 1982, 1983, 1987; and carded 7 hole-in-ones. In 1982, he shot the record Low Score of 28 for 9 holes (-5) on the Woodstock course.

A true sportsman, Doug constantly worked to improve his game and he retains his passion and love for the game of golf.
