Municipal Plan

We want to hear from you!

On January 1 2023, the former Town of Woodstock, the local service districts of Richmond, Upper and Lower Northampton, Northampton, and portions of the local service districts of Wakefield (known as Wakefield Inside), Woodstock, and Debec amalgamated to become the new municipality of Woodstock. This means that these areas are now represented by a new Council, who will be responsible for making decisions and providing services to residents across the entire new boundary, including decisions about land use planning and development.

This amalgamation also means that Woodstock will require a new Municipal Plan and Zoning Bylaw, which will apply to all areas across the new municipal boundary. A Municipal Plan is a document which provides a long-term vision for land use in a municipality, and provides policies and tools to help guide this vision. A Zoning Bylaw is a document which aids in the implementation of the Municipal Plan by providing requirements for land use, and processes that Woodstock must follow to determine if proposed land uses adhere to the vision of the Municipal Plan. Woodstock's Municipal Plan and Zoning Bylaw update provides an opportunity to determine the vision for the community, and how this vision should be guided.

These documents directly impact how your community is shaped by determining what types of developments can go where, what natural resources should be protected, and where essential services (water supply, roads, etc.) are needed. They can be used to address issues like food insecurity and the need for affordable housing, and they may impact what you are permitted to do with your property. Woodstock's Municipal Plan and Zoning Bylaw will impact the future of the municipality as well as your day-to-day life, which is why we want to hear from you!

Woodstock is currently collecting feedback from residents to determine what types of policy should be incorporated into the Municipal Plan and Zoning Bylaw.
